4 Different Types of Dehumidifiers and How They Work

The high humidity in summer is extremely uncomfortable for people. The higher the humidity, the more difficult it is for the body to transfer heat to the air.

Due to humidity, we get "feel like" temperature rather than the actual temperature. As the relative humidity increases, the air feels warmer than the actual temperature. This is because the evaporation rate of sweat is not fast, which is the main way we adjust the temperature. If the humidity in the air is low, sweat will evaporate faster, thereby cooling the body.  Indoor humidity is affected by many factors, including outdoor humidity levels, indoor humidity sources (bathrooms, kitchens, etc.), ventilation, etc.

Most people set a comfortable humidity level between 30% and 60%. We want to set the ideal indoor humidity level between 35% and 50%. However, the ideal indoor humidity level depends on your preferences. Just make sure it doesn't go below 30% or above 60%.

 

The dehumidifier can reduce and regulate the humidity in the air. They can be used in single rooms and apartments or large commercial areas, such as swimming pools and storage. The type of dehumidifier you choose will depend on your budget, housing area and preferences. Although we strongly recommend that you use the entire home humidification system to maintain the ideal indoor humidity level, there are still many options for you to choose from. Dehumidifiers can usually be divided into four types:

 

Heat pump dehumidifiers

These dehumidifiers require fans, heat pumps and heat exchange coils to remove moisture from the air. Using a fan, the air is sent into an extremely cold heat exchanger. Then the water condenses and gathers.

 

Refrigerant dehumidifiers

This sustainable dehumidifier works by using an exhaust fan to expel air to the outside. It uses sensors and exhaust fans and is most commonly used in basements, attics and crawl spaces.

 

Desiccant dehumidifiers

Desiccant dehumidifiers, they are composed of hydrophilic materials (such as silica gel). Many residential units contain disposable desiccant boxes, gels and powders.

 

Home Dehumidifier

Some commercial dehumidifiers have a filtering function that can convert condensate into drinking water. Regardless of size, a significant disadvantage of using a portable dehumidifier is that you will have to constantly empty the entire bucket of water. When the bucket reaches a certain height, the equipment will shut down. However, some dehumidifiers can be connected to drain hoses to distribute water outdoors.

In addition to the above four dehumidifiers, the simplest and best dehumidification method is a whole humidification system. They monitor the humidity of the house and then turn on the humidifier or dehumidifier as needed to bring the entire house to the desired humidity level. If you want to protect your furniture, artwork and other parts of the house from mold, rust, pests, warping and cracking, we strongly recommend using a central humidification system. Keep in mind that the dehumidification system for the entire home is more expensive and requires regular maintenance.
